Pacific approaches

The Pacific population in New Zealand is very diverse. The term ‘Pacific peoples’ includes a number of Pacific Island nations and communities who are linguistically, culturally, and geographically distinctive from each other.

Pacific treatment services are underpinned by Pacific values and incorporate Pacific approaches to health and well-being. Services provided are holistic, ie inclusive of spiritual, physical, emotional and mental dimensions. Essentially, treatment refl ects Pacific ways of thinking and doing, which includes a strong focus on family and recognising the importance of relationships with self, God, family and community, use of Pacific languages, and integration of Pacific cultural practices.

If you would like to discuss anything about any of these types of treatments, the alcohol drug helpline pasifika line (0800 787 799) offers free confidential information, help and support.  Or text us by texting adh to 234 and we will text you back to see how we can help.
